EYE TEST FOR KIDS

The eyesight of your child is extremely important to their social and educational development.

Even before starting school, children can have their eyes checked to evaluate their vision and muscular balance.

If there are any issues, we will either be able to advise on the best course of action or refer them to Derby Children's Hospital's eye department.

For children aged 3 onwards, we recommend that they have their eyes tested by an optician; nevertheless, if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

EASY & PRACTICAL
CHILDREN'S EYEWEAR

Glasses are now seriously fashionable and we’re passionate about supplying the best eyewear possible, especially for youngsters.

With styles to suit all, including casual, funky, smart or sporty, if your child needs new glasses, you certainly won’t be disappointed with the range we have to offer.

All children under 16 who need glasses are entitled to an NHS spectacle voucher whenever their prescription changes or if they lose or damage their glasses.

We understand that many parents prefer not to buy frames for their children especially if they don’t expect them to be taken care of. This is why we offer a range of frames free (with your NHS voucher). Simply ask us for details or come in to view our range of children's eyewear.

Children might not know how to tell you they have an issue with their eyes – and may not even realise themselves.

But you might be able to tell something isn’t right through their behaviour:

They might hold objects close to their eyes, or sit too near the television. Maybe they constantly rub their eyes, complain about headaches or suffer from crusty eyes.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A CHILDREN'S EYE EXAM

You may book your child in for an eye test with us at any time providing they are due or if you have any concerns about their vision.

We can use upper or lower case letter charts but also pictures if letter names aren’t yet known. There’s even an assessment that can be made on a baby’s vision using a preferential looking test.

Our optometrist will routinely assess the alignment of their eyes, measure the prescription to see whether glasses are needed and check the health of the eyes.

The whole test is designed around the individual child and every effort is made to get the best result in a relaxed/fun environment. All results are explained as the test progresses.

MiSight® MYOPIA CONTROL CONTACT LENSES

There is currently no cure for short-sightedness and until now, adults and children with myopia have been dependent on spectacles or contact lenses to correct their vision.

In recent years, exciting new developments in contact lens technology brings you the option to slow or halt the progression of myopia through contact lenses.

WHAT ARE MiSight® CONTACT LENSES?

MiSight® soft contact lenses from CooperVision are worn daily to correct short-sightedness and slow the progression of myopia in children with healthy eyes.

As well as this, they have the advantage of comfort and most children find these easy to handle. The recommended wearing time is 12 hours a day, 6 to 7 days a week.

The earlier myopia is managed the better but it’s never too late to start – any reduction in short-sightedness is beneficial to eye health.

If your child is diagnosed with short-sightedness, talk to us today about myopia control lenses or our overnight vision correction lenses, Ortho K.
