Since 1994 Tom and Liz Jackson have been running their own practices and testing eyes in Derby. After initially setting up their Oakwood branch they chose to open Alvaston Opticians in 2007, and Kimberley Opticians in 2011.
In 2023, their friend and business partner, Dr Farra Hargreaves, joined the practice. Dr Hargreaves brought with her over 20 years of experience in community and hospital work, glaucoma and emergency care, and directorship at the NHS. At the end of 2025, after 31 years of dedicated service, the Jacksons decided to wind down and passed ownership to Farra, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter built on the heritage of world-class patient care for which Alvaston Opticians is known.
Our Practice Manager Dawn, born and bred in Alvaston, has been at the practice since its beginning and is well recognised by our patients as the beating heart of Alvaston Opticians. Our practice also has had the pleasure of the lovely Laura, who also has been testing eyes with us since we opened.
